More Jobs for Filipinos

Registered Nurses during their Oath Taking

MANILA, Philippines --- More than 3,000 doctors and nurses from other countries are set to be hired by the Sultanate of Oman, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the hiring is in response to a projected shortage of medical professionals in that country.

Philippine Ambassador to Oman Joselito Jimeno, in his report to Baldoz, quoted the Minister of Health (MOH) of Oman, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al-Saidi, as saying that the Sultanate is facing a shortage of around 8,900 doctors and nurses going to 2015.

In a meeting on February 26, 2012, Jimeno said Minister al-Saidi conveyed his country's intentions to hire more nurses from the Philippines, particularly nurses specializing in obstetrics, gynecology, anesthesiology, surgery (neuro and cardio), intensive care, and psychiatrics.

The report, furnished the DOLE, said Oman's Ministry of Health announced it will hire 3,288 doctors and nurses from other countries in response to this projected shortage.

imeno said the Oman MOH will need 4,464 doctors by 2015, but can only source 1,176 of them locally. In terms of nurses, 5,598 will be hired abroad, he further said.

To meet these needs, Jimeno said Oman's state budget for health was increased by 9.4 percent for 2013.

Records at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) show that OFW deployment in Oman reached 15, 868 in 2012, with 10,291 rehires and 5,577 new hires.

MY POINT OF VIEW

With the latest news about the job hiring in Oman strikes me and think about our past lesson in Economics which is about Unemployment. This regards to the Unemployment rate case in the Philippines, which is really high right now. I think that it will lead to an unemployment rate development.

Unemployment Rate Development. WHY?

Unemployment rate's development, I think it will be a huge one because according to the article there are thousands of people who'll be hired and they prefer Filipinos to serve their(Oman National) country. More than 3000 nurses to be hired maybe just a small difference to be cut on the unemployment rate but it will be huge because it conducts change on the rate: there's a improvement though small. It can also lead to a less problem for the government.

Though they're not serving our country they will have a big role for the Economy of the Philippines because of the remittances they'll have. It will make a good difference to our economy and it will made us richer (a little bit though).

Unemployment Rate in the Philippines is really high right now but with small programs like this, involving hiring of Filipino workers though overseas because they'll still add a development to the Philippine economy, lessens one problem of the country which is the Unemployment. May this continue not just in Oman but for the entire countries around the world.

  1. GOOD JOB!

You have nice ideas, but it would have been nicer if you expound the said issue by discussing the impact of it on you. This is to make it more personal.
